10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning isn’t exciting for many of us. But it is important. As the holidays and winter come to an end and we start looking forward to spring, something within us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve piled up over the winter months.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of your house?
The outside of your home could likely use some refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the appearance of your home in St. Pete’s, and, even more important, will provide much-needed care and maintenance that will save you money over the years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time to clean out your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris collect in the fall and winter months. The pollen count is at its highest in spring, making a huge mess in your gutters if they aren’t cleaned.
Plus, pests and critters are searching for places to build homes in spring, so having your gutters cleaned out will help prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Home window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows will not cause you too much of a problem, but any second and third floor windows are a bit tougher to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a hard chore, and it will need a lot of supplies, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the recommended solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. That means you will want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can clean your house, outdoor furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they won’t permanently stain your home, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning might seem counter-productive since you will just be driving on it, but actually, a clean, maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really make it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio probably gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it can be easy to overlook it in the winter since you aren’t doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio might be in pretty rough shape the first time you go onto it in spring.
Soap and water – and a little elbow grease – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you see signs of mold or algae, you need to think about a more serious option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are common home roof issues in St. Pete’s. While you’re cleaning the outside of your home, it is a great time to clean your roof as well, but you will need to use a different process than what you use for most of your home’s exterior.
If you see streaks on your roof, algae is most likely the cause. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be wiped off shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your roof.
The best method for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach mixture and let it be. This solution will eliminate any organic organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Clean up the Front
The front of your home is probably what most people passing by see, so make the best impression possible for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a well-maintained exterior will improve your day, and it will encourage you to spend more time outside.
You can clean your porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front door, and think about painting it for a bright look! Clean forgotten areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Garden Tools
You’ll probably be spending much more time outdoors, so spring is an excellent time to organize whatever you will need for outdoor work.
Yard tools and pool care equipment should all have a specific area outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from weather and out of sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore to anyone. Taking the time to organize in the spring allows you to enjoy the outside of your home much more throughout the time of year when you spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and garden bushes can make a huge impact on the overall look of your home.
Get rid of weeds near your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you will be planting in the future and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but they can make you and your family ill.
Wipe it down to get rid of leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.
You can probably finish these projects after a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! St. Pete’s Pressure WashCo. provides professional residential exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
